Your own Domain and Website – Part 3

We continue the process of getting you own free or low cost site and gmail, from the previous post.
Recap: So far we have found a domain name that is available for registering (onecoolname.co.za), and we have signed up at a DNS service provider (in this case it is ZoneEdit).

Part 3: Sending Through the Domain Registration

We are working with the co.za domain registration process in this example which uses a manually submitted text file.

In Part 1 you downloaded the registration from co.za, it is very important that you DO NOT open this is word, you must open it is a text based editor. DO NOT FORMAT this form in any way.
  • No matter how get the form from page http://www.coza.net.za/coza_reg.txt, then select the whole page,
  • If you are using a browser to do this then go to the bottom right corner, and while holding the mouse down I drag to the top left corner.
  • I then press Ctrl-C (or right click copy). For Mac users you need to do it a different way
  • The from you Gmail click [Compose mail]
  • The email will open, then click the hyperlink that says Plain Text, it will give you a warning, say yes
  • Paste the registration form, do not delete anything, or do any formatting
  • Open the text registration form, and fill it in, here are a few notes:
    • 1a add the domain name, in this case onecoolname.co.za
    • 1b – put "N" there
    • 2a,b,c, etc put you details
    • 2e – put "I"
    • 2f – the company name
    • 2g – use your GMail email
    • 2i-n your details
    • 3 Leave Blank.
    • 4 & 5a-g your details
    • IMPORTANT 6. This is where you put the details you got in Part 2 from ZoneEdit and the name servers FQDN is the name which will be nsx.zoneedit.com, the IP addresses are the numbers in brackets. Primary is nameserver 1, Secondary = nameserver 2.
NOTE- only put the two servers in do not get confused by the additional Secondary Server listings.
    • 9 fill in descriptive details, this may become legally relevant
    • 10 fill in the legal address
  • If you have not already add coza-admin.at.co.za, under the To: address as instructed
  • Add a subject for you own tracking
  • Press [Send]
You should get  a reply in a few minutes. If you receive an error following the post read the error message carefully and correct what they tell you is wrong, if you did not submit it as text, it will fail, if you fill in things incorrectly they will fail. But if it does fail it tells you why. Correct and resubmit. Otherwise post error as a comment and I will try and help.

Now you need to wait for confirmation of the registration. In the meantime you can continue to Part 4, but Part 4 will only be a setup if part 3 fails.

April 7 March – Reflection

The Reality I was unsure if people care enough to make an effort. I planned to join the April 7 March to Save South Africa from the Cape Town Town Hall to Parliament the next day. Arriving in town we could see things were different. We walked past the Market in St Georges mall and saw almost no one there.  As we carried on walking towards the Grand Parade we heard first the motorbikes, then the people. Even though it was not yet noon, the crowd that had gathered was substantial, a lot more than the legal limit of 8,000. I looked up the street and then realized that the crowd was very large, my insecurity that no one cared enough to make an effort seemed like a joke. After some politically charged messages we started a slow march towards Parliament via Buitenkant. It was a slow march with some politically charged chanting – but was peaceful. When we got close to parliament as we could I realized there were a lot of people there.  Pers...

Bitcoin / Cryptocurrency – what is it and how can I benefit

What is it I started investigating Bitcoin when it was worth just over $1000 a bitcoin. I was interested in what it was and how it worked. A lot of people are saying we missed the boat, but I believe that everyone should at least try put a little money in now, or at least use a faucet (see below) to make a little micro-currency. You can read a Wiki article about bitcoin and its history etc. But what you need to know is that it is a currency, that is independent of country. No one really knows who invented the concept of a cryptocurrency since the person who published the paper used a nom de plume. All new cryptocurrencies work more or less the same way as Bitcoin. So as I explain below I interchange these terms. Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency. How Bitcoin works The currency releases a coin based on a mathematical formula. There will never be more than 21 million bitcoins (other cryptocurrencies do not work like this). Each bitcoin can have divided into one hundred mil...
